Some of the ServicesWe completely understand and accept that for some patients, going to the dentist can cause anxiety and that it can be a difficult and emotional experience. Sometimes this is due to past negative experiences.
We believe that we have a sincere and genuine desire to assist all our patients as much as possible, and especially in situations like these. Please have a look at our What Patients say about Us section on this website.
Our practice retains an existing large and expanding, satisfied patient base, which includes patients from all walks of life. The practice continues to receive referrals from patients and other sources, which we gratefully acknowledge and welcome.
At each of your visits, including the first one, Dr Shaunak will answer your questions and explain the issues to you, in everyday language; she will also discuss the range of treatment choices which are available to you and associated considerations.
We encourage you to communicate with us, where you feel it is appropriate, about your dental needs, experiences and treatment, so that we can work together to make each visit as pleasant and as stress-free as possible for you.
In addition, we are constantly seeking to improve the service we provide and we welcome patients’ feedback and comments.
We know that toothache and other facial pain can be debilitating and draining.
Pain can stop you functioning through your normal day.
We generally have emergency appointments available every day.
We will also, depending on availability and need, do our best to offer patients out- of- hours and weekend appointments.
We will always do our best, to promptly assist established and new patients, who are experiencing pain or discomfort.
We recognize and accept that we have a professional and ethical responsibility, as health professionals, to do our best to assist members of the community, whether they are new or established patients, with emergency treatment, both during and outside normal working hours.
Whilst we cannot guarantee the availability of appointments, we will always do our best to provide expeditious emergency treatment where it is required.
The practice has HICAPS facilities available, so please bring your Health Fund card with you, to each visit, so that you can claim your Health Fund rebate at the time of your treatment.
We recognize that for some people it is not always possible to attend appointments within normal working hours.
Accordingly, we can, depending on availability, sometimes offer out-of hour appointments.
Please discuss this with Kym when you call.
The practice offers both amalgam and white fillings.
Your dentist can discuss the benefits of each of these materials with you at your appointment, so that you can make informed and considered decisions about your treatment.
The practice has a dedicated ethos to preventive dentistry and to assisting patients to keep their teeth for life, if that is what they indicate that they want.
Dr. Shaunak believes that this is best achieved through a combination of factors such as:
Excellent oral hygiene at home;
Preventive measures at home and in our rooms;
A healthy diet;
Regular dental visits;
Maintenance and review.
We will do our best and try to help you to minimize the various and sometimes potentially serious effects, which disease in the mouth can have on the rest of the body.
The practice has a reception area which is warm, child friendly, interactive and non-clinical with
a play- area, toys and drawing materials.
Please have a look at our Our Rooms on this website.
Dr. Shaunak has an ardent belief in starting her professional interaction with children as early as possible.
She is impassioned in her belief that taking steps to establish trusting and relaxed professional relationships with children, from as early as 2 years old, is of mutual benefit to the child, the health-care professional and the community.
These early connections between children and professionals can then help to establish within children, as they mature into young adults, the foundations for life long trust and confidence in their health- care providers and a sound, beneficial and enduring understanding and respect for their bodies, and for their general health.
We will also, with parental permission, discuss diet, preventive measures, such as fissures sealing, and good oral hygiene practices with children, in age-appropriate terms.
We are always happy to discuss your children’s dental needs with you and we encourage you to bring your children for consultations from an early age.
The practice is generally able to provide a full range of dental care for our Veterans Affairs’ card holders.
A crown or a cap is usually made and fitted to protect what is left of a tooth, thus reducing the potential for its further breakdown and possible loss.
Bridges are made and fitted to permanently fill gaps between teeth.
In keeping with Dr. Shaunak‘s dedication to helping patients to keep their teeth for life, we can provide advice and hands-on demonstrations for patients, on how to best care for their mouths at home, and which products might best assist with this.
This advice and practice will hopefully minimize the need for potentially extensive and expensive dental treatment in the future and also helps to reduce the prospectively damaging and serious effects of oral disease on the body.
This includes advice on oral hygiene, a healthy diet and selected, appropriate products such as electric or manual toothbrushes, inter-dental brushes, flosses and mouthwashes.
We believe that it is important to do as much as we reasonably can, to prevent minor dental problems developing into major ones.
On that basis, we aim to identify potential problems as early as possible, so that we can advise patients with regards to what can be done to deal with concerns, as economically and as effectively as possible.
We also strongly recommend attendance every six months, so that problems can be diagnosed and treated early, and as simply and as economically as possible.
A healthy diet and the appropriate consumption of products such as soft drinks, sports drinks and highly sweet and acidic foods are essential to keeping your teeth for life.
We can advise further on this.
A bright, fresh smile is important to most people.
Concerns such as old, stained fillings in front teeth, chipped front teeth and gaps can make people conscious about the way they smile and interact with others, both socially and at work.
We will try to help to make your smile more attractive and pleasing.
Sometimes, just a simple procedure can make a positive difference.
Teeth can be whitened at home or in our rooms.
We can talk to you about the differences and what might work be best for you.
Dr Shaunak has seen many terrible injuries to mouths and teeth after sporting accidents
We firmly believe that gum shields are essential for both children and adults during sporting activities and that they represent excellent and economical investments, which minimize the potential for expensive lengthy treatments, which may be required following significant sporting injuries.
It is our experience that many patients grind their teeth at night and clench during the day with- out realizing that they are doing this.
Sustained grinding and clenching can cause significant damage to the mouth including fractures of the teeth, acute and chronic inflammation of, and irreversible damage to the jaw joints, headaches, earaches, backache and reduced opening.
A splint for use during sleep can be made to minimize these risks and we whole- heartedly believe that they represent an excellent investment in your future health.
We can provide both plastic and metal dentures to restore missing teeth.
Dr. Shaunak works closely with patients and our laboratory technicians, who are well qualified and very experienced in these areas, to help design and construct the best dentures we can.
Root Canal Treatment is generally required when a tooth becomes painful due to infection or trauma.
It is our experience, contrary to popular myths that Root Canal Treatment is not, and should not be a painful experience.
Snoring and sleep apnoea can be highly disruptive and detrimental to patients’ health and lifestyles.
We can discuss your options with you and provide advice for you on how you might like to proceed.
Wisdom teeth can cause problems such as infection, pain, swelling and crowding.
Depending on the exact circumstances, wisdom teeth may therefore need to be extracted, whilst others may be left.
We can advise you on treatment options and the possible advantages and disadvantages of each.
We encourage patients to get chipped teeth, broken teeth and broken fillings repaired as soon as possible in order to minimize the potential for pain, inconvenience and more complicated treatment later on.
Gaps between teeth can be closed in a number of ways, including bonded white fillings, crowns and bridges.
We can provide you with advice on this.
